At-Risk Youth programs at Citizen Advocates are available to youth of all ages who are exhibiting behavioral and/or emotional problems of varying degrees.
School-based counseling services
We offer school-based counseling services for youth who experience behavioral, emotional or substance abuse problems that affect school performance.
The highly trained and deeply compassionate counselors at Citizen Advocates have provided individual and group counseling to many children who are depressed and at risk for a wide range of self-destructive behavior.
Every year, our counselors provide youth behavoral health supportive counseling services to hundreds of children and adolescents in schools throughout the North Country. Common experiences of these students include loss, trauma, violent environments, substance abuse, family conflict, incarceration or death of parents, and minimal community support. Our counselors play an important role in providing assessment, referrals, and ongoing supportive counseling to these youth and their families.
Services are provided on school sites during school hours. Parents may request services, school administrators refer students, and students can request services.
Counseling is provided by behavioral health professionals trained in child psychology, grief, crisis intervention counseling and geriatric mental health.
