Intellectual & developmental disabilities
Individuals diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability have the right to lead a full and independent life of their choosing. Our caring staff is committed to protecting their individual rights, with dignity and respect.
We support over 6,500 individuals and their families on a yearly basis through a complete range of intellectual and developmental disability services in four key areas. These areas are individualization, community living, employment and meaningful activities, and affirmative business.
Through these programs and supports, we help individuals reach their desired level of independence in the life and community of their choosing.
Affirmative Businesses are the same as a commercial business but they also employ people of all abilities. As a result, they offer those we support more choice and opportunity of where they work, live and play.
We provide employment and pre-employment services to people with intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities. We assist people with obtaining and maintaining employment at a community based job, as well as teaching pre-employment skills.
These are warm and friendly settings where individuals can work on daily living skills in a group setting, independent living skills, outreach and community engagement.
Individuals with chronic conditions often rely on a variety of services and supports. Care coordination is the process through which each individual receives the appropriate level of care at the right time and right place.
Citizen Advocates can connect individuals to a variety of programs and services that contribute to improved physical health. Most people may not realize, but there are many more factors that can influence physical health beyond a yearly check-up at the doctor’s office.
Joshua House, a partner of Citizen Advocates, was founded on the belief that all individuals have access to programs and housing that offer the warmth of a family setting.
