Citizen Advocates recently welcomed a new member to the organization’s Board of Directors.
Brock Arnold grew up in Malone, and is a 2003 graduate of Clarkson University with a degree in Computer Engineering. Following graduation he worked at IBM in the Boston area for 10 years, and later applied his skills at a few start-up companies where he held various positions leading software development and data modeling teams.
His journey with start-ups led him to a non-profit in New York City leading a team of engineers responsible for U.S. Department of Defense contracts involving public health, global bio-surveillance, infectious disease detection and pandemic prevention.
“I think my time in that non-profit space helped me develop a greater appreciation for mission-driven organizations and the work they do,” said Mr. Arnold. “I believe my experience there sparked my desire to become more directly involved with a local non-profit like Citizen Advocates.”
Return to North Country roots
After returning to the North Country, Brock and his brother Robert, founded Energy Brothers, a local business distributing propane to the community. He also co-founded MTRX.io, a software company working with large food manufacturers and other industries focused on solving food safety and security challenges.
The Citizen Advocates Board of Directors is comprised of community volunteers representing a wide range of professional backgrounds, and is directly responsible for the ongoing governance and sound fiscal stewardship of the agency.

“Brock’s addition to the Board of Directors adds great depth and perspective to an already diverse body of individuals from several walks of life,” said Board President Martha Dishman. “This variety of expertise is a tremendous asset for an organization that is striving to be a recognized leader of exceptional services and employer of choice.”
In addition to Ms. Dishman, the Board’s Executive Committee includes Chastity Miller, Vice President and Secretary; and Nicholas Eells, Treasurer.
Citizen Advocates is a leading provider of developmental disability, mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services in northern New York.
In addition to being a major provider of exceptional, high-quality care and supports, Citizen Advocates plays an important role in the local economy.
The agency is one of several non-profits in the Adirondack Region and North Country that contributed to an overall economic impact of $422 million, according to a study published by SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations.
