At Citizen Advocates, Direct Support Professionals help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live meaningful, independent lives. In our residential homes and community programs, DSPs support individuals with daily living skills, community participation and personal goals—while building relationships that foster dignity, choice and belonging.

We’re offering:

a $500 sign-on bonus,
$16-22 per hour as a starting wage,
a $2 shift differential for overnights (6 p.m. – 7 a.m.),
and a great benefits package.

What you'll be doing

You are energetic, caring, creative, and enjoy being out in the community. As a Direct Support Professional, you will be providing residential, day habilitation and self-directed services to people living at home and within the community. You’ll encourage independence with activities and offer choices that the people we support find meaningful and valuable. Other duties include, but are not limited to, providing daily therapeutic and skill-building activities, recording daily documentation of services, and working as a team member to provide the highest quality of care and supports.

Meet Michael

Michael Mersinger has been a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Citizen Advocates for 24 years, working in both community and residential settings. He currently works at Citizen Advocates’ site-based Day Habilitation program in Malone where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities acquire, retain and improve a variety of skills while fostering friendships with peers.

“The goal is for our clients to become as independent as possible,” Michael explains. “If you’re a caring, giving person this job is right for you.”

When Michael’s not working, he enjoys being at home and getting outdoors to enjoy the weather.
