Debt help includes therapists, nurse practitioners
Relief from the burden of student loans is available for therapists and advanced practice providers who are employed or are seeking employment at Citizen Advocates.
The health and human services organization received notification that its participation in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program was extended through 2023.
The latest extension applies to the Behavioral Health Clinic in Malone. Citizen Advocates’ clinic in Saranac Lake enjoys a similar designation, and the organization is currently seeking the designation for its Massena Clinic.
The NHSC Loan Repayment Program offers medical professionals the opportunity to have their student loans repaid in exchange for providing healthcare in communities with limited access to services.
Citizen Advocates is in a Health Professional Shortage Area, which is one of the essential criteria for participation in the loan repayment program.
“Attracting and retaining medical professionals such as therapists, nurse practitioners and physicians is a shared challenge for all rural healthcare providers,” said James Button, Chief Operations Officer at Citizen Advocates. “Our participation in the loan repayment program gives Citizen Advocates a competitive advantage, in addition to the quality of life our community has to offer, when it comes to recruiting best-in-class healthcare providers.” A program participant since 2009, there are six therapists currently participating in the NHSC Loan Repayment Program.
